I rarely play games. The reason is just that I'm not interested in games. Most of my friends around me don't enjoy playing games, either. But among my friends, I have friends who have played Pokemon Go or who enjoy VR games. 'Is that fun?' I once asked them. 'It is a new experience! I'm scared because it looks so real.' That's what they said.
The popularity of VR in Korea continues to grow. Also, as VR machines are becoming more commercialized so that people can easily use at home, access to VR is becoming easier too, and the number of users is increasing.
Why are people who don't enjoy games interested in VR?
'Another important reason for this enthusiasm is the ultimate promise of VR: the possibility to create every possible experience. It is this promise that feeds the excitement of many people. Any experience you ever had, dreamed about, or never even thought about, anything could be experienced through this medium. The lucid dream. The Matrix. The holodeck. The last medium.' (ROBIN DE LANGE,2016)
One of the reasons might be this. As mentioned earlier, people can experience VR and experience things that they have dreamed of but are hard to achieve. It is an amazing experience to gain experiences that I have only seen in movies.
Unity is an engine that can make such an imagination a reality. Many game developers have already created games through Unity.
As I don't know much about VR and AR, I didn't know the engine that makes the game. So, when I first saw the Unity program, I felt like a mixture of MAYA, a 3D modelling program, and Premiere, a video editing program.
In the first day's lecture, I learned the basics. Create a cube, create a ball on it, give gravity and bounce to bounce it off.
It took so long to install on the computer that I couldn't keep up with the beginning of the class properly, but I still understood the essential tools.
There is no doubt that this is a useful program, but I still need more practices to get used to Unity.
